The Thomas Scott Company Is Expanding to Include Capital Campaigns
The Thomas Scott Company (TSCo) was established in 2003 for the purpose of offering personalized consulting services to nonprofit organizations. Upon completion of his doctoral dissertation on the effectiveness of grant funding for faith-based nonprofits, Dr. Tom Moucka was besieged with requests for assistance from all kinds of nonprofits. It wasn’t long before the demand outstripped his part-time attention and the TSCo was born.

In the early days services were concentrated on helping organizations get the grant funding they needed. The TSCo was doing business exclusively as The Grant Writing Coach. But it wasn’t long before clients began to draw on Dr. Moucka’s other areas of experience and expertise: major donor development, board development and conflict resolution. The TSCo expanded to include The Nonprofit Coach and The Conflict Coach.

Once again, due to demand, The TSCo is expanding. In the past several months we have been exploring the value of capital campaigns to our clients. Toward this end, we have tapped the expertise of the former Heritage Funding Associates and drawn upon our own experience with capital campaigns and feasibility studies. Beginning  November 1, 2008, we will be providing complete capital campaign services at competitive rates.

Our capital campaign services will include:

  • Accurate Feasibility Study
    • Case Study
    • Customized Questionnaire
    • Constituency Interviews
    • Board Briefing and Final Feasibility Report
  • Capital Campaign
    • Feasibility and Campaign Goal Consultation
    • Visioneering and Vision-casting Coaching
    • Case Statement and Campaign Materials
    • Campaign Scheduling
    • Campaign Approach Training
    • Major Donor Coaching and Visitation
    • Campaign Communications and Media Coaching
    • Mid-course Evaluation
    • Campaign Follow-up System
    • Final Campaign Report and Celebration

We will provide all of the above services without the typical cookie-cutter approach. Our promise is to work with you, your staff and volunteers in a personal way and with excellence throughout.  We will listen to you, and you will get the results you want. One more thing – we will do it all while respecting your budget.

With the addition of capital campaigns, the TSCo is now offering a full suite of services our clients are looking for. We’re proud of our tag line: Helping nonprofit entrepreneurs do the good they do . . . better. It’s true, that’s what we do, and we do it well. Give us a call and let’s start planning your next capital campaign today. You can call us at 615-708-0140, or email us at: info@ThomasScottCo.com.

Travels of the Coach…

We have had a busy fall here at The Thomas Scott Company. We would like to thank everyone that has hosted the Coach over the last few months. Here is an overview of our travels:
In September the Coach joined the American Camping Association for their southeastern conference. From there he proceeded to Chicago for a Kidology Conference, then onto Iowa for an Iron Sharpens Iron conference. In October the Coach took his first trip out to Federal Way, WA for a workshop hosted by St. Luke’s church and another for Young Life. We hope that everyone we met along the way has been inspired to start writing their first grant or develop a better board!

Nonprofit Center Stage
The Thomas Scott Company has had the privilege over the past few months to offer several Grant Writing workshops to Young Life staff in various parts of the country.

Young Life brings the good news of Jesus Christ to adolescents with an approach that is respectful of who they are and hopeful about who they can be. Young Life doesn't start with a program, it starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship.

Founded by church youth minister in 1941, today Young Life is active in 50 countries and over 800 communities in the United States. Many people know Young Life for their youth resorts (they still call them camps) – 22 slices of heaven sprinkled throughout the U.S. and Canada. Every year over 125,000 junior and senior high kids attend a Young Life camp.
